PRAISE AND POWER            THINK LIKE CHRIST             September 30, 2021

“If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit [gift of holy spirit], if any bowels [compassions] and mercies, Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded [thinking the same thoughts], having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind [souls together thinking as one].” (Philippians 2:1, 2) Is there consolation in Christ? Comfort of love? Fellowship of the gift of holy spirit? Compassions and mercies? Yes, yes and yes! The way for believers to be like-minded is to think the same thoughts. These are the thoughts God has provided in His Word.

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” (Philippians 2:3, 4) Our focus is to be on God and His Word first; and then, with humility and selfless consideration for others’ needs and concerns. The example of the loving service of Christ shines.

“Let this mind [thinking] be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form [given to him] of God, thought it not robbery [something to be used for personal gain] to be equal [agree] with God:” (Philippians 2:5, 6) Jesus Christ never took undue advantage of who he was. As his followers certainly we should think the same way he did.

“But [Jesus Christ] made himself of no reputation [emptied himself of self], and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:” (Philippians 2:7 - 9) God highly exalted Jesus Christ because of his faithfulness in service and loving obedience to God.

“Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my [Paul’s] presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out [demonstrate] your own salvation [wholeness] with fear [reverence] and trembling [obedience]. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:10 - 13) God is at work within us. God’s people should obey Him no matter who is near or far away. Believers have God in Christ within and therefore can always walk with God no matter when, where or with whom.

“Do all things without murmurings [grumblings] and disputings [arguings]: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation [generation], among whom ye shine as lights in the world;” (Philippians 2:14, 15) God’s people in their generation shine as lights in the world as they live God’s Word; in loving service to others. Believers can be thinking like Jesus Christ did live God’s Word.

“(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal [natural, temporal], but mighty [powerful] through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations [demolishing reasonings], and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought [every kind of thinking] to the obedience of Christ;” (II Corinthians 10:4 - 5) Whatever comes to mind, believers are to rid themselves of carnal thinking and think Godly thoughts as Jesus Christ did.
